Columbia Neurosurgery’s Dean Chou Featured as Keynote in Beijing’s First National Neurosurgery Congress 2023
Columbia Neurosurgery’s faculty are often cited as the world’s leading experts in their respective specialties, and Dr. Dean Chou, Chief of the Spine Division, Co-Director, Minimally Invasive Scoliosis Surgery, is no exception. This year, Dr. Chou’s expertise was sought around the world, including his selection as Keynote Speaker at the 1st National Neurosurgery Congress of CME at Xuanwu Hospital of National Center for Neurological Disorders in Beijing.
Said the Executive Chairman of the conference, Prof. Dr. Zhang Hongqi, “The structure and content of these conferences are designed not only for academic communication but also oriented to training and education of neurosurgeons. With Dr. Chou’s highly anticipated presentation, we will bring an academic feast with practical meaning, broad vision and mutual learning opportunities for neurosurgeons.” Dr. Chou’s keynote, “Update on the Modern Management of Spine Tumors,” covered treatment modalities for metastatic spinal tumors, including open techniques and minimally invasive procedures, which may lessen the morbidity of spine tumor surgery. Attendees were granted a firsthand look at several cases using these different procedures. Finally, Dr. Chou covered the treatment of unresectable chordomas with the possibility of treatment of Spinal Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT) as a potentially new treatment option.
Dr. Chou’s presentation also explored the history and latest research on spinal tumors, showcasing Columbia Neurosurgery’s highly customized approach to every case, considering every relevant detail to bring the most highly effective treatment possible. As we continue to build our minimally invasive program, we’re honored to share our learnings with other medical leaders worldwide to improve care for all.
Says Dr. Chou of his recent trip to Beijing, “It’s been my great pleasure to meet colleagues and new friends in Beijing through this recognition. Sharing perspectives in forums that bring the largest names in China’s neurosurgery field together truly shows us how these meetings of the minds drive future innovation and best practices around the world.”
