Education

The Department of Neurological Surgery is proud to be affiliated with Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, the oldest medical school in the United States.

Our neurosurgeons take pride in educating the next generation of physicians. Over 150 neurosurgeons have completed residency training at the Neurological Institute since its inception in 1909. More than 30 have become department chairs and have gone on to become presidents of national neurosurgical societies.

Residency Program

The neurosurgery residency program is a seven-year program to maximize each resident's potential, optimize their clinical and academic skills, and prepare them to become leaders in neurosurgery.

Fellowships

One- or two-year neurosurgery fellowships are offered for interested candidates.

Medical Student Programs

Medical student programs include a week-long neurosurgery clerkship during the third-year of medical school or a four-week sub-internship in neurosurgery during the fourth-year of medical school.
